Estelar Online is played with keyboard and mouse on a computer, or with touch on a phone or tablet. Every action key can be changed in SETTINGS › KEYS ([H] by default). This page lists the default keys; if you changed any, the game shows your choice in every hint.

In SETTINGS › KEYS, click an action and press the new key (Esc cancels). Actions are grouped by place: GENERAL works everywhere, SHIP only in flight and ON FOOT on the surface and in the bar. That’s why the same key can do one thing in the ship and another on foot: [R] fires a missile in flight and opens recipes on the surface.

If the key you pick already belonged to another action in the same place, the two swap. RESET TO DEFAULT undoes everything. Your choices are saved in the browser.

Some keys are fixed and can’t be changed: Esc (menu), Enter (chat and confirm), Alt (look around), the arrows and the numbers 1 to 0.

The cursor is free all the time, in flight and on foot, and the HUD is always clickable. Clicking doesn’t turn anything: to turn, drag.

Action What it does
Drag with the right button Flies the ship. On foot, turns the astronaut along with the camera.
Drag with the left button Only orbits the camera, without changing course.
Right held + left Fires the cannons, toward the amber dot of the crosshair.
Left click on a marker Selects that target.
Middle button Camera back behind the ship.
On foot: left held still Breaks the block under the cursor.
On foot: right click Places the block selected in the quick bar (held still, 4 per second).
On foot: mouse wheel Picks the quick bar slot.

When you release the button, the cursor goes back where it was. Mouse sensitivity is in SETTINGS.

See Surface for breaking and placing blocks.

Play with the device in landscape. When you touch the screen, the joystick appears on the left and the buttons on the right. The buttons hold the same keys as the keyboard and only show up when they’re useful: WARP and LAND with a target, and DOCK, SCAN or MINE when possible.

  • In flight: fire, afterburner, accelerate, slow down, warp, target, interact, land, switch camera and recenter.
  • On the surface: break, place, jump, run, interact, measure and photograph.
  • Dragging on the scene turns the camera; tapping a marker selects the target.
  • The ☰ button opens the map, channels, matches, record, album, inventory, chat and the HUD panels, which become drawers on mobile.

[Esc] closes the open window or opens the MENU: continue, settings, star map, discovery log, matches, social, radio, shop, what’s new, community, citizenship seals, emergency tow, support and sign out. Signing out, like warp, waits for the combat lock to end (15 s after the last hit you took).

SETTINGS also has the language (Portuguese, English or Spanish), performance (LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH and ULTRA, with the frames per second next to it; the change applies right away), volume and the microphone mode (always open or push to talk).
