Colonies
Any pilot can colonize a landing site: plant the flag next to the pad, wait for the colonization to finish and collect the income from the drones, which gather resources for the owner, even while they’re offline. Whoever colonizes every base on a planet becomes its owner and decides whether the planet turns into a war zone.
How to colonize
Section titled “How to colonize”- Land at one of the planet’s sites ([L] by default, with the planet scanned). See Surface.
- Walk to the flag spot, right next to the pad.
- Press [F] at the flag.
The flag is planted and the colonization starts right away, with a notice to every pilot. The drones start earning from the very first minute. Pressing [F] at the flag again shows the progress and how much is left.
How long it takes
Section titled “How long it takes”Colonization takes 5 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the planet’s size: small worlds are quick, big ones take the full hour. In the Solar System, for example:
| Planet | Time |
|---|---|
| Mercury | about 19 min |
| Mars | about 32 min |
| Venus and Earth | 1 h |
Each site is a separate colonization. A planet with two sites needs both flags to have an owner.
Drone income
Section titled “Drone income”Each colony has drones that pay credits every minute. The income grows with the planet’s size and triples when the colonization is complete.
| Planet | Colonizing | Complete |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | 7 ¢/min | 21 ¢/min |
| Mars | 8 ¢/min | 24 ¢/min |
| Venus and Earth | 11 ¢/min | 33 ¢/min |
Online, the income lands in your account every minute, with a notice. Offline, it piles up and is paid when you log back in, with a cap of one day of income: being away for a week earns the same as being away for a day. To earn it all, you have to come back to the game.
Contesting
Section titled “Contesting”While another pilot’s colonization isn’t finished, you can contest it: land at the same site and press [F] at the flag. The flag becomes yours and the timer starts over from zero. The previous owner and the whole universe find out. When you land at a site being colonized, the game tells you whose it is and how far along it is, in percent.
Once complete, the colony can no longer be contested.
Partnerships
Section titled “Partnerships”Friends can colonize together. If you’re friends with each other (in the FRIENDS tab of the SOCIAL screen, [B] by default), pressing [F] at your friend’s flag joins as a partner instead of contesting.
- Up to 2 partners per colony.
- Each partner who joins during the colonization cuts 25% of the remaining time.
- Drone income is split equally between the owner and the partners, and each one has their own one-day offline cap.
Your base
Section titled “Your base”With the colony complete, press [G] (default) at the flag to set the site as your base. That’s where you respawn if your ship is destroyed. The most recent save point is what counts: docking at a station or entering a kiosk afterward moves your respawn there, until you set your base again. Only a site you colonized, and that’s already complete, can be a base.
Planet owner: “You colonized”
Section titled “Planet owner: “You colonized””When a pilot has every site on a planet colonized and complete, they become the planet’s owner and the YOU COLONIZED screen appears, which needs an answer (it comes back every minute until you decide). There are two choices:
- Declare war (yes or no): with war, the planet becomes a war zone. Every ship in flight within six radii of the planet with a war license in force is at war, whether or not it turned on war mode. A ship without a license doesn’t go to war. See PvP and wrecks.
- Ecological restoration (yes or no): the planet goes back to its original look. Blocks that pilots placed at its sites are removed and go into your inventory; whatever doesn’t fit is lost.
The decision is announced to the whole universe and holds for as long as you own the planet.
