Interface
Estelar Online’s flight screen is the HUD: ten fixed panels, five on each side, plus the crosshair, the markers and a few strips in the center. Nothing is tied to the mouse: the cursor moves freely and every panel is clickable at any time. The big screens (map, log, record, inventory, station) open on top of the game and close with [Esc] or with their own key.
The panels
Section titled “The panels”Each panel has its place. The − on the title bar minimizes the panel (only the name stays). SETTINGS › RESET PANELS puts everything back to normal.
| Left side (top to bottom) | Right side (top to bottom) |
|---|---|
| SYSTEM: system name, star, sector and position. On the surface it becomes LANDING SITE. | STATUS: credits, hold, discoveries, kills and pilots online. |
| SHOP: the week’s bundle of cosmetic items. | DIPLOMACY: the WAR MODE button. |
| OBJECTIVE: the training or story step; ‹ › pages through active missions. In a match it becomes MATCH. | CHANNELS: join a voice and camera channel. |
| CHAT: [Enter] to type. | RADIO: Audius music just for you, in flight. |
| FLIGHT: mode, speed, throttle, positioning thrusters and fuel. | RADAR: what’s around you; the ⤢ opens the map. |
The FLIGHT panel deserves attention. The FUEL bar drops during warp (see Fuel). The THRUSTERS bar drops when the ship is nearly stopped close to a planet or moon: there’s no antigravity, and holding the ship still in a gravity well costs energy. With no reserve left, the ship starts to fall; accelerating recharges it.
The center of the screen
Section titled “The center of the screen”- Level strip, at the top: level, experience and how much is left. See Progression.
- Crosshair: the ring and the dot in the center. The amber dot shows where your shots land; when the cannons converge on the target, it locks green on the lead point.
- Ship ring: around your ship, the four shield faces in their real position (front at the top), the bottom arc is the hull and the top one is the weapons. It stays dim while everything is fine and lights up when something gets worse; a broken face blinks red. See Basic combat.
- Target: shows up as a caption at the bottom center, with name, type, distance, state and the scan bar. With a hostile, it also shows its health.
- Shortcut bar: at the bottom, the keys for wherever you are (in the ship, on foot or in the bar), always with the key you configured.
- Notices: game and server messages rise in the middle of the screen (green for good things, red for bad ones).
Markers
Section titled “Markers”Planets, stations, pilots, pirates and kiosks get a marker on screen. Clicking a marker selects the target. Every enemy ship in range (pirate up to 120 km, pilot up to 400 km) gets a number from 1 to 0, from nearest to farthest; that number key locks the target. Hostiles carry a health bar on their marker, which blinks red below 25%.
On foot: the quick bar
Section titled “On foot: the quick bar”On the surface, the bottom shows the quick bar: the first 9 backpack slots, only with hand items (blocks, torches and tools). 1 to 9 or the mouse wheel pick the slot. The LANDING SITE panel replaces SYSTEM. See Surface and Inventory.
Star map
Section titled “Star map”The map ([M] by default, or the ⤢ on the radar) has five tabs. Clicking an item selects it as the target; then just warp ([G]).
| Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
| CURRENT SYSTEM | The system’s star, planets, moons, landing sites, stations and asteroid fields, with the distance. Each planet says who made the first landing or whether it’s never been walked on. |
| ⚔ HUNT | The system’s pirate spots, with the danger shown by color, the elite and the commander, and the neighboring systems at your level. |
| NEARBY SYSTEMS | The closest real stars, with type, number of planets and whether there’s a station, for interstellar warp. |
| KIOSKS | The nearest kiosks and the warp time to each. |
| EVENTS | Upcoming events (like the meteor showers at landing sites) and how soon; clicking takes you there. |
Discovery log
Section titled “Discovery log”The log ([O] by default) lists everything you’ve recorded, newest first: systems visited, stars, planets, moons and stations scanned, stations you docked at for the first time, artifacts and first landing milestones. Each line shows the name, type and system. The total appears under DISCOVERIES, in the STATUS panel. See Planets and discoveries.
Record
Section titled “Record”The record ([Y] by default) has four tabs: THIS WORLD (what’s known about the planet or star around you), DOSSIER (the census readings still missing on each world), STORY (the Census chapters) and PILOT (level, attributes and equipment).
What’s new
Section titled “What’s new”When a new version of the game comes out, the notice A new version of Estelar Online is out appears with what changed since the version you have open. RELOAD updates right away (your progress is saved), READ MORE shows the full list and LATER leaves it for another time. The full list is also in the Esc menu › WHAT’S NEW and at estelaronline.com/novidades. Items marked NEW aren’t in the open version yet.
On mobile
Section titled “On mobile”On a small screen, the HUD stays clean: a strip at the top with the system, level and credits, plus the radar, speed and target. The other panels (objective, status, diplomacy and the rest) open as drawers from the ☰, one at a time, and full screens get an ✕ to close. See Controls.
