Inventory
Everything you carry in Estelar Online lives in two compartments shown on the same screen: your suit’s backpack, small and always with you, and your ship’s hold, large and measured in tons. Open the inventory with [I] by default (you can change it in SETTINGS › KEYS), anywhere: in flight, docked or on foot.
Item types
Section titled “Item types”| Category | Examples | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Block | Stone, Sand, Glass, Lamp, Torch | Hand item: goes on the hotbar |
| Tool | Pickaxe, Plasma drill | Hand item |
| Ore | Iron, Nickel, Water ice, Iridium | In units of 0.1 t; see Ores |
| Material | Metal ingot, Rod, Scrap, Electronic components | For crafting and repairs |
| Equipment | Plasma cannon II, EVA suit I | Unique: one per slot; see Equipment |
| Blueprint | Blueprint: Fusion engine III | The recipe for a piece of equipment; see Workshop |
| Artifact | Artifact from a site | Unique, with who found it, where and when |
Backpack
Section titled “Backpack”The backpack has 36 slots. Identical items stack: up to 64 per slot for blocks and materials, 100 units (10 t) for ore, and just one for tools, equipment, blueprints and artifacts.
To move an item, click it and then the destination slot; clicking a slot with the same item merges the stacks. You can put on equipment with a double-click (on foot only).
The hotbar
Section titled “The hotbar”The first 9 slots of the backpack are the hotbar, used on foot with keys 1 to 9. It only takes hand items: blocks (including lamps and torches) and tools. Ore, materials, equipment, blueprints and artifacts go in the rest of the backpack; trying to put one of them on the hotbar shows the warning “The hotbar only holds hand items”.
When you pick something up, a hand item can drop straight onto the hotbar if there’s room; everything else goes to slots 10 and up.
The hold has no slot count: it’s limited by mass, in tons. The HUD shows “HOLD x / y t”, and the inventory shows a cargo bar.
Capacity starts at 20 t, grows a little with your level (1 t every 5 levels), goes up with equipment that adds hold (cargo modules and the suit backpack) and is multiplied by your ship class: a Freighter carries four times the hold of the starter ship.
Mass of each thing:
| Item | Mass per unit |
|---|---|
| Ore (any type) | 0.1 t |
| Equipment | 0.2 t |
| Ingot, scrap, block, artifact | 0.05 t |
| Rod, components, pickaxe | 0.02 t |
| Plasma drill | 0.03 t |
| Blueprint | 0.01 t |
Each ship has its own hold: when you switch ships at the garage, the cargo stays with the stored ship.
The hold only opens near the ship
Section titled “The hold only opens near the ship”Your backpack is always at hand; the hold isn’t. It opens:
- in flight and docked at a station, always (you’re inside the ship);
- at a kiosk, where your ship is parked;
- at a landing site, only within a few meters of your landed ship.
Away from the ship, the hold list shows the warning “The hold only opens near the ship”, and the store and take buttons disappear.
Storing and taking
Section titled “Storing and taking”- STORE IN THE HOLD: pick an item in your backpack and use the button; everything that fits goes in.
- TAKE: in the hold, moves the stack to your backpack (whatever fits).
- ✕ (discard): throws away a stack from the hold; you have to confirm.
- SELL and MUSEUM: only while docked at a station; see Credits.
During a direct trade with another pilot, your inventory is locked until the trade finishes or is canceled.
Where your pickups go
Section titled “Where your pickups go”The game picks the compartment based on where you are:
| Where | First | If it doesn’t fit |
|---|---|---|
| On foot (surface, bar) | Backpack | Hold |
| In flight | Hold | Backpack |
Asteroid mining always goes to the hold. If both the backpack and the hold are full, the item is lost, with a warning. Empty them before a long hunt.
Death and cargo
Section titled “Death and cargo”If your ship is destroyed outside matches, all the ore in the hold is lost. Materials, equipment, blueprints and artifacts stay. See Damage and repair.
